The company learns nothing about the intricacies and issues of any particular installation. Installation is performed as fast as possible without reports to the company. The company recieves reports from the installer containing details of the installation. This information is consulted if there is need for a service call in the future. The employee is under instructions to install the products correctly and efficiently, not in a particular time frame.
Customer ServiceCustomer Service
None. It is left up to the company that employed the sub-contractor. Often companies do not want to pay or cannot find another installer to "go out and fix somebody else's mistakes". Also using a sub-contractor provides the company with an excuse to do nothing. "Sorry Mr. & Mrs. Customer, sounds like a product problem, you can call the manufacturer, here is their number..."
Or worse still: "Sorry Mr. and Mrs. Customer, sounds like an installation problem, you can call the installer, his name is Bob, we just have a cell phone number for him, you can try it if you like but we have not seen him around for a while."
The customer speaks directly with the company that sold and installed the products. Knowledgeable individuals handle the call and the appropriate employee is detailed to visit the homeowner's residence; one phone call is all it takes from a customer.
Quality of InstallationQuality of Installation
Unfortunately reliable quality minded sub-contractors are a very rare breed, money and therefore speed are the typical sub-contractors primary objective. Speed encourages mistakes and short cuts that come to light at a later date. Because sub-contractors cannot be managed in the same manner as company employees, hoping for a quality installation is often futile. With the right employee team quality is intrinsic, expected and mandatory.
Professional Business ConductProfessional Business Conduct
Customers often have to sign two contracts, one for the product and the second one for the installation labour. It is often not know at that time by the company selling the products who will be installing the products. At an undetermined time in the future the selling company, once they receive the products, attempt to find an available contractor.

Little thought is given to quality, it is more a case of "just finding someone".

The sub-contractor serves many companies, they will choose the best paying and easiest jobs.

There is a total lack of control by the company, organizational effort is impossible as they are at the whims of the sub-contractor.

Serious delays are experience by customers waiting for installations.
